So there are 101 secrets. Here are a few. Let us start with seeds. You have been to the garden center and carefully selected the varieties that you plan to try this season. Sometimes you have great luck with your seeds and sometimes not so much. Here is tip number one. Seeds like a warm environment. They also like being started in starting mix as opposed to potting soil. Before you plant, warm the moistened starting mix either in the microwave or the oven for about 30 minutes at 350F.
Tip two, when starting plants from a seed it is a good idea to sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon powder on the soil. The Cinnamon powder will help to deter fungus that causes damping off.
Three is one you maybe already do. If you cover each young seedling with a plastic drinking cup, it will work like a little mini greenhouse at this very tender stage of plant development both holding prescious moisture and protecting your seedling from cold air and wind.
Four offers a suggestion that you add an aspirin to a glass of water when you are trying to 'root' a plant. This helps with water absorption.
Five gives us a tip on sowing our seeds outdoors. The suggestion is to sprinkle flavored gelatin over each seed you are sowing and cover as usual then water. WHY? you may ask. Well, it turns out that sugar feeds helpful bacteria and gelatin provides nitrogen to the plant!
